how to connect headphones to laptop windows 10

If you're having problems connecting your headphones to your laptop, please follow the below steps:

1. Go to the Devices tab on the taskbar and find Headphones. Click on it. This is usually found in the bottom-right corner of the window.

2. Next, left-click on Playback Devices and you will see a list of playback devices connected to your computer or laptop – find Headphones/Playback in this list and make sure it is checked*.

3. Next, left-click on the volume for Headphones/Playback and you will see in the lower right corner of your screen, a volume slider. If Headphones/Playback was not unchecked in step 2, move this slider to the "0" mark.

4. Now you'll see a new icon appear on your taskbar. Right-click on that icon and go to Playback Devices → Headphones/Playback Devices or go to Start → Control Panel → Hardware and Sound → Properties In Windows 7 or 8, it is in Sound and Audio Devices where you need to go.

5. Now make sure your headphones are plugged into one of the available ports on your laptop (usually either audio output or mic input). If your headphones were plugged in while you rebooted the laptop, you may need to unplug them, then plug them back in again.

6. Now click or tap the Set Default button. If there is no button, click or tap Properties – this will take you to the same place where you can set your default playback device for headphones/headset/speakers. You should now be able to hear sound from your headphones, if not check your computer's volume slider and make sure it is set at a reasonable level. If you still can't hear any sound, check to make sure your headphones are actually plugged into the correct input port and that they are working.

7. Now repeat steps 1–5 for every Playback Device on your list (usually there's only one).* You might also want to test your sound again if you have multiple playback devices selected at once.

* Make sure you choose Headphones/Playback as the default device in all applicable windows and it will be saved in the Windows registry. Each time a new audio device is added or updated, it will automatically become the default device. If you want to avoid this behavior, select which playback devices should stay as the default. Keep in mind that the default device is not actually used for playback but it does represent which device will be selected when you press the play button.

8. If you are still having a problem, please try updating your audio driver and check if it is compatible with your laptop or computer. You can find audio driver updates for Windows 7 here and for Windows 10 here . Make sure to check if there are any system requirements (for example, you might need Service Pack 1 installed on your PC before installing the latest driver). If you have a Mac, most audio drivers can be found here .

*If you uninstall the current audio driver and install a new driver directly from the hardware/audio devices manufacturer website, you may need to delete and reinstall the existing driver through Device Manager. You can find instructions on how to do that here .
